The Night Listener

Two stars out of four. This was an ok movie. I like Robin Williams, but unfortunately, this movie was rather dull. No obvious flaws, it's just a bit boring. Basic Synopsis: Gabriel Noone (Williams) is a radio show host who is contacted by a listener, a boy with AIDS. However, there is some debate over whether or not the boy actually exists, if he is actually the fabrication of a woman who claims to be his mother. Gabriel Noone sets out to find the truth.

Lady in the Water

Three stars out of four. I was slightly disappointed with this one by Shyamalan. His previous movies have always been excellent. This was a bedtime story come to life, and that is almost impossible to sell outside of Disney movies. Have to commend him for trying though. As always, there is a bit of humor this one, including a rather hilarious scene, though confessedly, it is a bit morbid, but still funny. Basic synopsis: An apartment complex superintendent discovers a water nymph in the pool. Now he must protect her from evil beings that are hunting her and help her in a ritual that will return her to her people.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Three stars out of four. Barely. This has a more complicated plot than the first. However, it is long. Almost "Lord of the Rings" long. It definitely needed some editing, particularly the big sword fight at the end. However, it is enjoyable. Be ready for the third one. Basic Synopsis: Will and Elizabeth are sentenced to death for helping Jack escape. While Elizabeth is in prison, Will must find Jack and get the compass from him in order to secure an acquittal. Meanwhile, you learn of a deal that Jack made with Davy Jones, and now, Jones is coming after Jack to make him pay his debt.

The Skeleton Key

Four stars out of four. This goes on my favorite movies list. It was not a horror movie as I was expecting, but is more along the lines of "supernatural suspense". I sincerely doubt that you will see the end coming until it happens. Basic Synopsis: A young nurse goes to an old plantation house in the bayous of Louisiana to care for an old man who has been paralyzed by a stroke. She begins to suspect, however, that something supernatural may have caused his condition.

X-Men III: The Last Stand

Three stars out of four. I enjoyed this movie thoroughly. No, I have never read the comics, which is probably why I am giving it better reviews than some others might. It is not quite as good as the previous two. They should have stayed with the same director, but they did not. Basic Synopsis: Jean Grey is back, but she has been taken over by her suppressed, primitive side, and is out of control. Meanwhile, scientists have developed a "cure" for the mutant gene, and Magneto wants to destroy it.

Apologies

I have been long in neglecting this site. I will post reviews for the movies I have seen this summer, but they may be brief, as I may not remember all of my first impressions. "One Thousand Apologies"...it's a Demon Hunter song.
